On the night of Saturday, July 4, St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region of Russia experienced a large-scale drone attack. Local residents reported a series of powerful explosions, the work of air defense, and fires.
St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov stated that drones attacked the city and that air defense forces were working to intercept them. Residents were urged not to go outside and warned of possible disruptions to mobile internet service.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, 389 drones were allegedly "intercepted" during the night, including over the Leningrad and Moscow Regions. Separately, the Russian military department announced the "elimination" of another 67 UAVs over the Leningrad Region in the morning.
At the same time, the monitoring channel Exilenova+ reported damage to the Petersburg Oil Terminal. According to OSINT analysts, several fire outbreaks were recorded on the object's territory.
The Telegram channel Astra, citing local residents, also reported hits on an industrial facility.
In addition, the Governor of the Leningrad Region, Alexander Drozdenko, announced the "falling of debris" in the port of Vysotsk, located approximately 90 km from St. Petersburg. The Lukoil oil terminal operates in this port. According to the official, air defense forces allegedly shot down two drones. He did not report any official consequences of the attack.
As noted by Advisor to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Serhiy Sternenko, the Petersburg Oil Terminal is one of the largest in the Baltic region. Its territory houses 21 oil product storage tanks, and its annual throughput capacity is 12.5 million tons.
This is not the first attack on this facility. In early June 2026, Ukrainian drones had already struck the Petersburg Oil Terminal and the Russian Navy base in Kronstadt. At that time, according to the Ukrainian side, the corvette "Boykiy" was hit.
