The Ukrainian National Pantheon will be located on the territory of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra
The resolution was developed by the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance and is a logical continuation of the project to create a pantheon.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a resolution according to which the Ukrainian National Pantheon will be located on the territory of the National Preserve "Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra". This was reported on the page of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance.

"The document envisages the development of the Pantheon's concept and structure by the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance; ensuring scientific and methodological support for the process of establishing the Pantheon and defining forms of memorialization; conducting expert and public discussions on issues related to the establishment and activities of the Pantheon".

They say that the UINM, in conjunction with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, must ensure the verification of fighters for Ukraine's independence and other individuals who have played a significant role in shaping the national consciousness and identity of Ukrainians, and their family members buried outside Ukraine, for whom reburial on the Pantheon's territory is deemed appropriate.

The Ministry of Culture, under which the preserve falls, is responsible for the location of the Pantheon, taking into account land use restrictions, requirements for the protection of cultural heritage, and Ukraine's international obligations, as well as organizing and conducting an architectural competition for the best Pantheon design.

The creation, arrangement, maintenance, and functioning of the Pantheon within the National Preserve will be funded by the state budget and other sources not prohibited by law.

We remind you that on July 1, the Verkhovna Rada adopted in its entirety bill No. 15360, which provides for the creation of the Ukrainian National Pantheon.

First candidates for reburial

We remind you that the first candidates for reburial have already been identified for the National Pantheon. Currently, this list includes about 40 surnames.

Among the first candidates are Yevhen Konovalets, founder of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, Mykhailo Omelianovych-Pavenko, general-khorunzhy of the Ukrainian People's Republic Army, and Vasyl Kuk, the last commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army.

Initial stage and transfer of remains to the center of Kyiv

The first step of this state initiative was the reburial of the remains of the leader of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, Colonel of the UNR Army Andriy Melnyk and his wife Sofia Fedak-Melnyk, which took place on May 25 at the National Military Memorial Cemetery in Kyiv region. Following this, Ukraine is preparing for the reburial of the founder of OUN Yevhen Konovalets.

As historian and Member of Parliament Volodymyr Vyatrovych explained, another reburial will take place later - directly on the territory of the National Pantheon of Heroes, which is to be established in the center of Kyiv.

It is expected that this facility will become a place for international protocol for foreign delegations and high-level state ceremonies. The historian emphasized that the state must systematically take this initiative, as a large number of Ukrainian graves remain abroad and are disappearing due to the death of guardians or the collapse of public organizations. Commenting on criticism on social media regarding the high cost and inappropriateness of such steps during a full-scale war, Vyatrovych noted that such accusations are a standard way of discrediting measures aimed at strengthening Ukrainian identity.

By the way, on the night of June 16, Russians attacked Kyiv again, as a result of which the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra was damaged. "Tvoe Misto" report from the preserve after the shelling read here.
