Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski stated that his country has already done "most of the work" on comprehending its own history, and Poland's responsibility for historical events is questioned only by "marginal circles." He said this before the meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the European Union countries in Brussels, according to "LIGA.net".
He believes that the essence of Europe lies in the choice to be one family so that similar atrocities do not happen again in the future. And President Volodymyr Zelensky's decision and his refusal to back down from these decisions, according to the Polish minister, "did not benefit bilateral relations."
Sikorski also added that the European project is based on reconciliation in light of past atrocities, but "reconciliation is possible only on the basis of truth and on the condition that each nation comprehends its own history."

We remind you that on June 19, Polish President Andrzej Duda made a decision to strip Zelensky of the Order of the White Eagle, which caused a political discussion and a series of mutual statements between Kyiv and Warsaw. This happened due to the naming of one of the Ukrainian units after the Heroes of UPA.
Later, the head of the Office of the President Kyrylo Budanov and the third president of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenkoannounced their refusal of Polish orders.
By the way, before that, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiga, during a meeting in Warsaw with the head of the Polish MFA Radoslav Sikorski, proposed to the Polish side a package of anti-crisis steps to overcome historical disputes between the two states.
However, after that, the Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk statedthat he expects a "first step" and a "clear signal" from Ukraine to reduce tensions in bilateral relations. At the same time, Tusk reported that he received a letter from the third president of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko with a call to work together on comprehending difficult pages of history and not to allow the past to define the future of Ukrainian-Polish relations.
In Ukraine, it was immediately reported that they did not consider the option of renaming the unit.
