Another attack on Ukrainian citizens due to their nationality has occurred in Poland. In Wroclaw, unknown individuals beat a young couple – the girl Nastya and her boyfriend Maksym. The girl's mother stated that the attackers reacted aggressively to the Ukrainian language and accent. Karina Kitsay reported this reported on the social network Threads.
Both victims suffered serious injuries. According to the woman, her daughter had stitches on her neck, and doctors also suspect concussions in both young people.
The situation with hate crimes in Poland
This is not the first case: the number of attacks on Ukrainians in Poland remains consistently high and continues to grow. According to the Main Police Directorate of Poland, in the first six months of 2026, Ukrainian citizens filed 180 reports of probable hate crimes, which is approximately 30% more than in the same period of previous years. For comparison:
2024: 267 reports for the whole year;
2025: 275 reports for the whole year.

How the Polish police react
Given the negative trend, the law enforcement agencies of Poland have intensified their counteraction to such offenses and introduced new criteria for evaluating their own effectiveness.
New monitoring: Since 2026, police actions are evaluated based on whether cases of attacks or public insults based on nationality have been investigated and brought to court. Since May 2026, data on crimes against Ukrainians have been singled out into special statistics.
Specialized units: Since February 2026, the Ministry of Justice of Poland has authorized 50 prosecutor's offices across the country to investigate hate crimes.
Appointment of responsible persons: According to the Development Plan for 2026–2029, each city, district, and regional police unit will appoint a separate person responsible for cases committed due to prejudice.
Reaction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the General Consulate
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has already reacted to the latest incident of violence. The Consulate General of Ukraine in Wroclaw urges Polish law enforcement agencies to respond promptly to the beating of Ukrainians.
"We are forced to state that recently incidents of violence and aggression against Ukrainian citizens have become more frequent in Poland. Each such case requires a thorough investigation and proper legal assessment," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a comment to hromadske.
Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba has instructed the General Consulate to take the necessary response measures urgently. Ukrainian diplomats have already sent an official request to the competent authorities of the Polish police.
Citizens of Ukraine who were injured during this incident or possess important information about it are urged to contact the consulate immediately. This will allow for providing the necessary assistance and ensuring constant interaction with the Polish law enforcement agencies.
"If the stated circumstances are confirmed, we expect a comprehensive, objective, and prompt investigation, identification of the motives for the offense, and bringing the perpetrators to justice in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Poland. Any manifestation of violence, xenophobia or hatred is unacceptable and should not take place in a democratic society," emphasized the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
