The café Te Amo Lviv, Spanish for «I love you Lviv,» has become a hub for Lviv’s expats and English-speaking locals. Joe Lindsley, Lviv Now’s editor, invites Te Amo regulars to offer their perspectives on the city of Lviv. By hearing the stories of a café, we will get to know some of the foreigners and also a few Ukrainians who call Lviv home.

I’m 30 years old and I come from the far away land of Missouri in the United States. As I was considering living and working in Lviv, I encountered on Facebook this interesting community of locals and expats who speak English («Lviv Expats and Friends»; inquire for membership). There, I was delighted to learn about events that were hosted in English at Te Amo Lviv coffee shop. So when I arrived to Lviv this past summer, I tried out some of the events right away, and I was not disappointed.

Going to Te Amo gave me the possibility to meet with other English speakers, and I was surprised that most of the participants were actually from Lviv. So this coffee shop turned out to be a great way for me to meet both locals and people from abroad who want to speak English.

Besides having great events, Te Amo also has high quality food and drinks. While of course starting with a cappuccino, I started to branch out to try a milkshake and «cheese and crackers.» Now, after several months of living in Lviv, I enjoy going to Te Amo from time to time for a good snack and great conversation.

The owner of Te Amo has also been so kind as to allow me to host some of my own English speaking events in his cafe. For example, for several months I hosted an English speaking club called «The Human Body in Art» with students from the Ukrainian Catholic University. The students enjoyed the cozy environment at Te Amo, as well as the chance to have an event outside of the university campus.

Just recently I hosted an international event called «Lviv Young Professionals.» We had live music playing and did some networking to meet people living and working in Lviv in various professions. I am always happy to meet people from other countries than my own. At Te Amo this seems possible very often.

Te Amo also has a focus on art. Inside the coffee shop you can find various displays of artwork on their walls, from various local artists. This is always interesting. I have also seen several live music performances here as well. So if you like art, whether painting or music, you might find it there while enjoying a glass of wine.
