Will Lviv become Ukraine's transport hub: the city's vision until 2040

Lviv will host a meeting with the chief architect of the city Anton Kolomeytsev and French architect and urban planner Martin Duplantier.

At a time when, due to the war, Ukraine's western border is becoming an even more strategically important node for logistics, economy, and humanitarian dimension, proper planning is crucial for the future success of large-scale changes.

What is more important for improving transport transit through Lviv - building a Northern bypass road or properly planning and creating a new railway hub? What will reduce traffic jams in Lviv - more public transport, more expensive parking, or the development of new infrastructure and the launch of a city electric train? Is it possible to connect the airport and the train station in the future for passenger convenience? When will park-and-ride facilities finally appear and how does it work in Europe?

These and other important issues will be discussed in Lviv at an editorial meeting of the media hub "Your City" on September 16 at 4:00 PM with leading experts in the field - French architect and former head of the Association of French Architecture (AMO) Martin Duplantier, chief architect of Lviv Anton Kolomeytsev, designer and head of Lvivski Linii LLC Borys Hanailyuk and director of the strategy and transformation department of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" Oleg Yakovenko.

During the meeting, it is planned to discuss both the overall vision for the development of the city and agglomeration as a logistics hub, as well as specific existing and future projects necessary for its implementation.

Once, residents of the northern outskirts of Lviv used to go ice skating in winter – right on the streams that flowed through their district. Today, it's all hidden underground, and above – dense high-rise buildings. The proposal is to bring these rivers back to the surface, along with dozens of other ideas, by five international architectural teams testing the Swiss spatial planning method for the first time in Ukraine for Holosko, Zamarshtyniv, and Zboishcha. "Your City" found out from chief architect Anton Kolomeytsev when residents will be able to see a comprehensive development plan for Northern Lviv.

Participating in the pilot planning are five international architectural teams from Switzerland, France, the Netherlands, Kyiv, and Lviv, who have developed five different scenarios for the development of the Northern Lviv territory. The city council claims they are not competing with each other, and the best proposals are promised to be integrated into a single concept. Key project figures: 690 hectares – total area of the territory; ~50% already occupied by development, the rest is potential for development; 5 teams architects – from Switzerland, France, the Netherlands, Kyiv, and Lviv; 100-150 m – height difference on the hills of Roztocchia...

It is on this territory that the intention to build a multi-story residential building, as well as a new building for "Lviv Polytechnic University," was previously announced. The presentation of master plans by five international teams of architects, representing development strategies for Zboishcha and Zamarsstyniv within the “Northern Lviv” project, sparked colossal interest among residents of these areas. In such a large-scale project, the authorities promise to take people's opinions into account. When the big plans for Northern Lviv became known, “Tvoe Misto” (Your City) reported on the chronic problems of this part of Lviv.
