The Kyiv-based bimonthly business NV (НВ) has named Bachevskykh restaurant in Lviv the best restaurant in the country, according to their experts’ evaluation.

Located just off Rynok Square, on Shevska, 8 street, Bachevskykh restaurant, which features «Ukrainian Galician urban cuisine,» received the highest number of positive references from the experts. «Here, you are spectacularly served with Lviv syrnyk (a local cheese cake), zhurek (a traditional soup of Polish origin) and traditional Lviv salad with beets, nuts and prunes. The restaurant has its own cellars with nalyvka (alcoholic drinks made by homemade recipes) and the author’s cocktail card by the restaurant’s brand-barman Ivan Zelyk», – the publication states.

The average cheque in this local cuisine establishment is 600 UAH.

Except for the Lviv restaurant, the top ten includes the establishments in Kyiv and Odesa, representing Ukrainian, Italian, Oriental, and Asian cuisines, and a fish restaurant.

Let us add that in 2015, restaurateur Mark Zarkhin founded Bachevskykh restaurant. Bachevsky were a famous family, who since the end of the XVIII century, had been successful at making alcoholic drinks and who founded the first local vodka factory. The vodka produced by the Bachevskykh family was the first brand of drinks, which the imperial court of the Austrian monarchy used to purchase, and it was consumed in the restaurants on par with cognacs and grappas. Therefore, the vodka history began with Bachevsky. The family are also known as patrons and cultural figures.

Bachevskykh restaurant is particularly popular for its daily breakfast buffet, for which patrons often wait in line. The rest of the day the atmosphere is one of fine dining, amid a room with canaries in cages. Its bar, located in the cellar, is noted for its inventive cocktails, including a smoking street car. The restaurant is also known for its cold borscht, served in a bowl made of ice, frozen around fresh examples of the ingredients in your soup.
