Losses of Russian personnel increased to 5710 – General Staff
The total number of losses among the Ukrainian defenders is yet unknown, but about 70 soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine died as a result of shelling in Okhtyrka, Sumy region, on 28 February.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the total estimated losses of Russian troops from the beginning of the large-scale invasion to 6.00 am of March 1, Radio Liberty says. In particular, dead personnel amounted to 5,710 people, captivities – 200.

Destroyed and damaged:

  • aircraft – 29 units,
  • helicopters – 29 units,
  • tanks – 198,
  • BBM – 846,
  • artillery systems – 77,
  • air defense means – 7,
  • MLRS – 24,
  • fuel tanks – 60,
  • UAV operational and tactical level – 3,
  • boats – 2 units,
  • automotive equipment – 305.

The General Staff added that the data are being clarified because the calculation is complicated by the high intensity of hostilities.

General data on the losses of the Armed Forces are unknown. However, 28 February, the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration Dmytro Zhyvytskyi said that dozens of Ukrainian servicemen were killed in the Russian artillery shelling in Okhtyrka alone: ​​»Currently, places in the cemetery are being prepared for about 70 dead Ukrainian soldiers.»

We will recall that Martial law was imposed in Ukraine after the new Russian invasion. At 5 a.m. on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the launch of a special operation in the Donbas following a request for military assistance from the DNR/LNR, which he had previously «recognized.»
