US senators from Ukraine’s support group are trying to persuade US President Joe Biden to provide humanitarian air assistance to Ukraine. This should save Ukrainian cities under siege, as well as deter Putin’s air strikes.

On March 2, Senator Marco Rubio sent a letter to US President Joe Biden asking him to urgently send humanitarian aid planes to Ukrainian cities under Russian blockade. The United States has criticized the proposal for fear of escalating the conflict with Russia. Senator Rubio suggested minimizing the risk of escalation by establishing a hotline between the US Ministry of Defense and the Russian Ministry of Defense, and involving a third country, the Vatican, Israel or any other non-NATO or non-pro-Russian country.

On March 3, the leader of the parliamentary majority, Dick Durbin, addressed the Senate with a request to provide humanitarian air assistance to Ukraine.

Earlier, the United States provided humanitarian air assistance to Georgia. In 2008, American planes arrived in Tbilisi to curb Putin’s advance inside the country. The presence of US aircraft is a safeguard against shelling of the territory in which they are located.

Humanitarian air assistance requires a decision from US President Joe Biden and a budget. Earlier, the President of the United States promised $ 6.4 billion in security, humanitarian and economic assistance to Ukraine and NATO countries that help Ukraine. The allocation of these funds is planned within the framework of the government’s financial bill, which the Senate proposes to consider only on March 11. For the immediate allocation of funds, Senator Rubio introduced a separate bill, which is proposed to vote early.

Ukrainians and Americans began commenting on the senators on Twitter to force the United States to provide immediate air humanitarian aid. To join #SafeAirlfitUkraine, follow the link.

It will be recalled that the day before, the Ukrainian journalist emotionally rebuked British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and other NATO members fearing World War III, and called for closing the skies over Ukraine, which the Ukrainian people are desperately asking for.
