From the first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the Lviv railway station received 100 thousand people a day, while before the war, this number was 5,000. The chairman of the board of JSC «Ukrzaliznytsia» (Ukrainian railway), Oleksandr Kamyshin, told about this during the summit of first ladies and gentlemen.

According to him, Ukrzaliznytsia started working under new rules on February 24, which helped save millions of people.

«We decided that passengers can travel without tickets, priority boarding was given to women and children. We understood that it was necessary to give people the opportunity to leave, that comfort is less important than life,» – Oleksandr Kamyshin said.

He noted that the evacuation flow is now decreasing. Exceptions are cities shelled by the enemy.

«Now, there is a more important task – to take all the willing Ukrainians home and let those Ukrainians who did not leave stay here,» – he noted.

We will remind that from the first days of the war, people who came by train from the regions of Ukraine, where shelling and missiles were falling, were fed at the Lviv railway station. In the field kitchen near the station, several 320-liter cauldrons of hot food were cooked during the day, despite the fact that one cauldron holds 1,200 portions. How and who worked at the station in the field kitchen, read in our material.
