On November 6, Ukraine conducted the nationalisation of private shares in five strategic companies. This was stated on the website of the National Securities and Stock Market Commission (NSSMC) and shared on Telegram by Yaroslav Zheleznyak, MP from the «Holos» party.

According to the sources, «Ukrnafta» and «Ukrtatnafta» oil companies, as well as «Motor Sich», «AvtoKrAZ» and «Zaporizhtransformator» engineering enterprises became the objects of nationalisation. Suspilne (Public) media added that among their owners are oligarchs Konstantyn Zhevaho, Ihor Kolomoiskyi, Konstantyn Hryhoryshyn, and Vyacheslav Bohuslaev.

The current NSSMC decision provides for the forced alienation of the private shares of the aforementioned businessmen in favour of the state. According to the document published by Zheleznyak, the newly-earned stakes will be managed by the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.

Subsequently, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Oleksii Danilov, announced that the seized assets acquired the status of military property. He explained that the alienation of five enterprises took place in compliance with the decision of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Staff and due to military necessity on November 6.

According to the Economic Pravda, Ihor Kolomoiskyi’s companies own about 42% of the shares in «Ukrnafta». 50% plus 1 share belonged to the state represented by «Naftogaz» JSC. Other shares are owned by minority shareholders.

Kolomoiskyi and his business partner Hennadii Boholyubov own about 60% of another energy company «Ukrtatnafta», the rest of which belongs to «Naftogaz» JSC. The key asset of «Ukrtatnafta» is the Kremenchuk Oil Refinery, disabled by the Russian missile fire in May.

The company «AvtoKrAZ» is part of the «Finance and Credit» group of the fugitive oligarch Konstantyn Zhevaho. The enterprise is engaged in the production of heavy trucks.

«Zaporizhtransformator» is a bankrupt enterprise that produces transformer and reactor equipment. Its owner is Konstantyn Hryhoryshyn.

It should be noted that Vyacheslav Bohuslaev was the owner of «Motor Sich» until being detained by the Security Service of Ukraine on October 22 on suspicion of collaborating with and aiding an aggressor state. Since 2000, the businessman has been a citizen of the Russian Federation. In 2017, Bohuslaev sold 56% of the company’s shares to the Chinese holding «Beijing Skyrizon Aviation Industry Investment Co» Ltd. Due to the presence of violations, in particular, regarding compliance with antimonopoly legislation, operations with shares of «Motor Sich» were blocked, and later – arrested.
