On the night of April 16, the Russian army carried out a combined attack on Kyiv, using ballistic missiles and strike drones. As a result of the shelling, large-scale destruction of the residential sector and infrastructure facilities was recorded in several districts of the capital. Four people died, including a child. This was reported by Mayor Vitali Klitschko, the Kyiv City Military Administration, the State Emergency Service, and law enforcement agencies.

Destruction in the capital's districts
The Podilskyi and Obolonskyi districts sustained the greatest damage:

Destruction of a single-story private house was also recorded (two people were rescued), along with damage to the facades of two hotels. In another 16-story building, an enemy projectile hit the sixth floor, and 10 residents were evacuated.

In total, 17 high-rise and 10 private houses were damaged in Kyiv, as well as an office center, a shopping mall, a car dealership, and a gas station.
Changes in transport movement
Due to the closure of road sections at the sites of the shelling aftermath cleanup, the KMDA has introduced changes to the operation of public transport:
- Trolleybuses Nos. 4, 5, 26, 35 run only to Valeriy Marchenko Square. On route No. 28 additional rolling stock has been deployed.
- Buses Nos. 32 and 36TR changed their route via Stetsenko and Hazoprovidna streets.
- Bus movement is delayed No. 53 on Elektrykiv and Havanska streets due to road closures.
Law enforcement officers have initiated a pretrial investigation into the violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder. Investigative and operational groups and rescuers continue to work at the scenes of the tragedy.
