In the center of Lviv, on Svobody Avenue, test sandblasting of granite tiles has been completed to make the surface less slippery and safer for pedestrians. This was reported by the press service of the Lviv City Council.
"The contracting company performed about 75% of the work on Saturday, and the rest was completed on Monday morning. We specifically planned these works for the morning to minimize inconvenience for pedestrians," —the message says.
The work was carried out with co-financing from a McDonald's restaurant, and the contractor provided a 30% discount.
The treated tiles will be tested for a month to check the effectiveness of the anti-slip properties. If the results are successful, the method may be applied to the entire avenue.
It is noted that the pedestrian surface on Svobody Avenue, covering over 1,800 square meters, was installed more than ten years ago. Over time, the tiles became slippery, especially during rain and winter precipitation....
We should add that earlier, in a comment to"Tvoe Misto"the Halych District Administrationreported, thatthey were considering several options for solving the problem with these tiles: from complete replacement of the surface to treating the tiles with special technologies. In particular, the possibility of grinding was mentioned as a more affordable method.
Residents have repeatedly complained about the slippery tiles in this area, reporting falls and injuries, and appeals were sent to the city's "Hotline."
