Ukraine received the first part of the defense tranche from the EU in the amount of 3.9 billion euros from a credit package of 90 billion euros. All funds will be directed to the purchase of drones of Ukrainian production. This is reported by reported by "European Pravda".

On June 30, Ukraine received the first part of the first tranche of about 6 billion euros, intended to support the Ukrainian army. The funding will be fully used to purchase drones.

"The European Commission is starting today the disbursement of EUR 3.9 billion as the first payment under the first tranche of approximately EUR 6 billion, intended for the purchase of drones – a key capability that allows Ukraine to counter Russia's aggressive war", – the European Commission's statement reads.

According to EU sources, part of the funds arrived with a delay due to the verification of drone supply contracts that Ukraine submitted for funding. The European Commission explained that such checks are necessary to ensure that the aid is used for procurements agreed upon with the Commission and EU member states.

At the same time, Brussels noted that the rest of the funds from the first tranche will be transferred in the coming days in accordance with Ukraine's payment requests.

"Today, we are releasing the first tranche of EUR 3.9 billion for advanced drone technologies to strengthen Ukraine's defense. And there will be more. These investments will help Ukraine protect its citizens, defend its sovereignty, and strengthen Europe's security. Europe stands firmly with Ukraine for as long as it takes to achieve a just and lasting peace", stated European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

In total, the EU loan package provides for EUR 30 billion in budgetary assistance and EUR 60 billion for defense support to Ukraine during 2026-2027.

In 2026, Ukraine is expected to receive EUR 28.3 billion to support its defense industry potential. Subsequently, funds will be directed not only to drones but also to the procurement of ammunition, missiles, and air defense systems.

Recall that back in December 2025, the EU approved a loan for Ukraine in the amount of EUR 90 billion without using Russian assets.
