Lviv Polytechnic National University has taken first place for the first time in the academic ranking of higher education institutions "Top-200 Ukraine 2026". The ranking was published by the "Euroosvita" Center for International Projects based on recommendations from the IREG Observatory on Academic Ranking and Excellence international expert group, writes the university's press service.
When compiling the ranking, experts took into account the transformational processes in Ukraine's higher education system, including the consequences of the full-scale war and the reform of the sector. The weight of indicators related to sustainable development, social responsibility, international competitiveness, and innovation capacity of universities has also been strengthened.
Lviv Polytechnic demonstrated balanced results across key indicators. In particular, the university became the leader in the number of applications submitted by applicants and the effectiveness of participation in scientific project competitions. According to it ranked second among Ukrainian HEIs, and third in the SCImago Institutions Rankings, Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR), THE Sustainability Impact Ratings, NAQA, and patent numbers.
The university's overall index was 5.11 (compared to 5.38 in 2025), which secured it first place in the overall standings.
The second position in the ranking was taken by Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv with an index of 5.91. In third place is Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute National Technical University of Ukraine with a score of 6.29. Following are Sumy State University (7.14) and Ivan Franko National University of Lviv (8.76).
It should be noted that the "Top-200 Ukraine 2026" ranking generally reflects the increased role of international indicators and sustainable development criteria in evaluating Ukrainian universities, as well as the adaptation of the higher education system to wartime conditions.
