Night attack by the Russian Federation on Kyiv: residential buildings, schools, and a medical facility damaged in four districts

On the night of August 27, Russia struck Kyiv with ballistic missiles and drones. Debris was recorded falling in the Desnianskyi, Obolonskyi, Podilskyi, and Shevchenkivskyi districts of the capital, where residential buildings, cars, two gymnasiums, and a medical facility were damaged. There were no injuries or casualties. This was reported by reported city mayor Vitaliy Klitschko.

Consequences of shelling and situation in the city

As a result of the enemy attack, damage was recorded in four districts of the capital:

  • Shevchenkivskyi district: the premises of one of the gymnasiums were significantly damaged - windows were blown out and the buildings were substantially damaged. Another educational institution was also damaged, and windows in a municipal medical facility were blown out by the explosive wave.
  • Podilskyi district: debris fell in the courtyard between residential buildings.
  • Desnianskyi and Obolonskyi districts: damage to residential buildings and cars was recorded.

Investigative-operational groups, explosives technicians, and other services are working at the scene, documenting the consequences of the Russian Federation's war crime.

Due to increased air threat, at the direction of Ukrzaliznytsia monitoring groups, the movement of Kyiv City Ring Railway trains was temporarily suspended. The start of Kyiv City Express trains was delayed and resumed after the air raid alert was canceled at 7:50 AM. At the same time, at 10:06 AM, the Kyiv City Military Administration reported the resumption of Air Defense Force operations in the city due to the ongoing air raid alert.

Scale of the air attack on Ukraine

According to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on the night of August 27, Russia attacked Ukraine with two anti-ship missiles 'Onyx', ballistic missiles 'Iskander-M'/'KN-23', and 258 strike and imitation drones (including Shahed, 'Gerbera' type UAVs, S8000 'Banderol', and 'Parodya' imitation drones, about a third of which were reactive).

The main directions of the attack were Odesa, Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, and Zaporizhzhia regions.

As of 9:00 AM, air defense shot down or suppressed:

  • 1 'Onyx' anti-ship missile;
  • 7 'Iskander-M'/'KN-23' ballistic missiles;
  • 3 S8000 'Banderol' drones;
  • 222 Shahed, 'Gerbera', and other types of UAVs.

Impacts of air attack weapons were recorded at 15 locations, and debris fell at another 11 locations. Some of the weapons did not reach their targets; as of 9:00 AM, the attack was ongoing.
