The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) thwarted the Kremlin’s plans for new «people’s republics» in western Ukraine. According to the Ukrainian special services, the «Federal Republic of Ukraine» was to include the following oblasts: Ivano-Frankivsk, Zakarpattia, Lviv, Ternopil and Chernivtsi. This was reported in the SBU.

The logic of creating pseudo-formation was to shake up the situation in the rear of the Ukrainian military. Namely – in those areas that can not be captured by the regular army of the Russian Federation, the SBU explained.

According to the occupiers, the creation of a pseudo-republic would deprive the Armed Forces of Ukraine of support and supply from the rear.

SBU detained the organizer and key figures of the network in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. According to the intelligence service, in the western and central regions, they were to recruit more than half a thousand traitors. The separatists planned to discredit and deprive the security forces of society. Inspire distrust of law enforcement. The armed separatists then had to eliminate key law enforcement officials and government officials.

After that, it was planned to first seize administrative buildings in the regions and proclaim «people’s republics» on the model of the so-called «L/DNR», and then unite them into a new state, controlled by Russia.

During the investigation in the organizer’s apartments, SBU found the prepared manifestos to the army, security forces and civilians of Ukraine with calls to join the traitors.

According to Article 109 (actions aimed at forcible change or overthrow of the constitutional order or seizure of state power) of the Criminal Code, the separatist organiser and his accomplices face 10 years in prison.
