The anti-aircraft missile unit, headed by the commander of one of the «West» air command divisions, Mykhailo Myronenko, destroyed 14 cruise missiles that were flying towards the Lviv region. This is reported by Armyinform.
A cruise missile is one of the most difficult aerial targets. It moves at an extremely low altitude, skirting the topography of the area. This makes it difficult to detect it, and it’s precisely with such missiles that the enemy strikes the Lviv region.
«We shot down the first two cruise missiles on March 13, when the Russians launched a massive attack on the Lviv region. It’s an incredible feeling to see and understand that our team just won an anti-aircraft battle, that we managed to protect important objects from the attack, and save people’s lives,» – Commander Myronenko said.

According to him, the division is armed with anti-aircraft missile systems capable of destroying targets at a distance of up to 75 kilometres, at an altitude of up to 27 kilometres.
«Since 2014, we knew who could threaten us and seriously prepared for it. We learned to confront the enemy, who outnumbered us in terms of numbers and weapons. A few days before the large-scale invasion, the unit was already acting as if the enemy could strike at any moment – changing positions, manoeuvring. We did everything so that the invaders could not discover our location,» – he said.
The commander noted that the anti-aircraft battle is extremely fast-paced. Seconds are of decisive importance, and the cruise missile is in the zone of damage of the complex sometimes less than a minute. During this time, the unit must identify the target, capture and destroy it.
«We are doing our best. People and equipment are working at the limit of endurance. We are constantly in readiness for combat work. We never stand still, we change positions, we strive to be exactly in the direction of the missiles’ flight,» – he added.
