At the Mohyliv-Podilskyi checkpoint, border guards exposed a scheme for illegal border crossing. A 44-year-old resident of Kyiv tried to leave Ukraine by passing off his 80-year-old mother-in-law as his lawful wife. This was reported by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

During the inspection, the man and woman tried to convince the border guards that the large age difference did not hinder their "sincere feelings," and that the woman's disability gave the man the right to accompany her during departure.

However, during a detailed interview, they began to get confused about the facts of their shared household and were unable to coordinate their answers. It turned out that the elderly woman is actually the mother of the Kyiv resident's common-law wife, who has been abroad for a long time.

The border guards refused the man's request to cross the border. For the attempt at deception and organizing an illegal scheme, a report was sent to the National Police regarding signs of a criminal offense.
