Ancient relics hidden by monks before the arrival of Soviet rule in the 1940s were discovered in the Holy Dormition Univ Lavra in Lviv region. Among the findings were corals, candlesticks, gold rings, and church items that decorated the Univ miraculous icon. This was reported by Hieromonk Makariy Dutka of the Holy Dormition Univ Lavra.

The findings were discovered in the attic of the metropolitan chambers, dating back to 1820. According to the clergy, monks had hidden several kilograms of corals from the Indian Ocean, nine ancient candlesticks, one monstrance, 19th-century medals, and gold rings that pilgrims presented as gifts to the Mother of God under the floor.
"Part of the necklace has been restored and hung on the ancient icon. Also, our local restoration workshop cleaned all nine silver-plated candlesticks," — noted Fr. Makariy.

He notes that similar historical findings occur regularly in Univ. According to representatives of the Lavra, pre-war monks often hid church valuables, saving them from destruction by the Soviet authorities.

By the way, the Univ miraculous icon holds a special status for Greek Catholics. In 1736, Pope Clement XII granted it the status of miraculous. The main feast dedicated to the icon is celebrated annually on the third Sunday of May. The tradition of this celebration was established in 2004 by Lubomyr Husar together with the Synod of Bishops of the UGCC.
