An electronic petition has been registered in the capital calling for the renaming of the future "Varshavska" metro station to "European Union Avenue." This initiative is linked to a desire to express a symbolic protest against the recent decisions of the Polish authorities regarding the state award of the President of Ukraine. This is reported on the website of the Kyiv City Council.
Symbolic protest and aspiration for European integration
The author of the appeal emphasizes that such a name change is a reaction to the deprivation of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the Order of the White Eagle. At the same time, the new toponymic name will have a deeper meaning and reflect the geopolitical aspirations of our state.
In particular, the initiator highlights the following main arguments in favor of renaming:
- the name "European Union Avenue" will emphasize Ukraine's unwavering and clear European course;
- it will symbolize strong unity and solidarity with the European Union member states;
- the new name will fully correspond to the strategic development direction of the country and its aspiration for full membership in the EU;
- the name change will have important long-term symbolic significance for the entire capital.

Position on Ukrainian-Polish relations and a call to the community
The text of the petition specifically states that changing the name of the future metro station in Vynohradar does not carry any negative context regarding the neighboring country and its citizens.
The collection of signatures is currently underway, and for the Kyiv City Council to consider the possibility of naming the metro station "European Union Avenue" instead of "Varshavska," the initiative must gather the required number of votes from concerned Kyiv residents.
