What the temperature at home should be

They note that the impact of elevated temperature on human health is closely related to relative humidity and air velocity, especially in enclosed spaces.

"In hot weather, excessive indoor humidity should be avoided in residential and office premises – no more than 80% (but not less than 30%) and low air velocity – less than 0.25 m/s", write from the Lviv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

The indoor air temperature should be within +20±2°C.

It is also not recommended to lower the air temperature below +22°C. The recommended temperature difference between outdoor air and indoor air with air conditioning is no more than 10°C.

How to cool a room without air conditioning

  1. Place a container of water in front of the fan. The water evaporates intensely under the action of warm air, thus cooling the room by 2-3 degrees.
  2. Curtain the windows. The main source of hot air entering the room is called windows. During the day, it is recommended to close them and curtain them with light-colored curtains so that direct sunlight is reflected outwards and heated air does not enter the room. It is most advisable to open windows early in the morning and at night, when the air temperature decreases.
  3. To avoid burdening the body in hot weather, try to exclude strength training.
  4. Turn off unnecessary electrical appliances that generate heat.

Also, the center's director Nataliia Ivanchenko-Timko shared a way to fall asleep easier in the heat.

To do this, place the pillowcase in a bag and put it in the freezer for 15 minutes. Then put the pillowcase on the pillow before going to sleep.

In summer, due to heat, changes in atmospheric pressure, and weather sensitivity, well-being often deteriorates: weakness, headache, dizziness, or rapid heartbeat. The heart is also affected by war, anxiety, and stress, which can trigger increased blood pressure and exacerbation of chronic illnesses.
