On the night of July 2, during an air alarm, 52,500 people sheltered at the stations of the Kyiv metro, including almost 4,500 children. This is reported reported by Kyiv Metro.
According to the enterprise, during the air alert, all 46 underground metro stations are operating as shelters. All entrances, without exception, are opened for citizens to enter.
Rules of stay and recommendations for citizens
The metro reminds that those who wish to stay overnight must arrive at the station before it closes, inform the subway staff or police officers about it, and descend to the platform. The station staff will indicate the appropriate place for accommodation.
Since the temperature at the stations is currently around 17–18°C, citizens are advised to bring with them:
- warm clothes, a blanket, or a sleeping mat;
- drinking water and necessary medications;
- personal hygiene items;
- diapers and bags (for pet owners).
In addition, passengers are advised to use metro stations when possible. During air raids, there are usually fewer people at these locations.
In connection with the deaths and the scale of destruction as a result of the massive shelling, Friday, July 3, in Kyiv has been officially declared a Day of Mourning.
