Olesko, Pidhirtsi, and Zolochiv castles form the "Golden Horseshoe of Lviv Region" - one of the most popular tourist routes in the region. The extended route also includes Zhovkva and Svirzh castles, which, although less visited, offer a unique atmosphere, picturesque views, and interesting stories. For the convenience of tourists "Your City" has gathered the current opening hours, ticket prices, and facts about each castle of Lviv region for the new 2026 season.

Olesko Castle

Olesko Castle is one of the oldest in Ukraine, towering on a hill amidst the plains. Its silhouette is visible from afar, and the road to it creates a feeling of travelling to another era. It was here, according to historical data, that King Jan III Sobieski was born, and later the castle became a center of noble culture.

Today, its halls house one of the largest collections of sacred sculpture in Ukraine, particularly Baroque. The place is shrouded in legends - visitors often mention a mystical atmosphere and stories about ghosts who supposedly appear within the walls of the ancient fortress. The ramparts offer picturesque panoramas of the surrounding fields, which are particularly attractive to photographers and artists.

Svirzh Castle

On Saturday, May 16, the Svirzh Castle cultural and artistic center will open a new tourist season. Visitors are invited to excursions to one of the most famous fortresses in the Lviv region – Svirzh Castle, where the films "Dovbush" and "Hetman" were filmed.

The fortress, whose history dates back to the second half of the 15th century, was built as a defensive structure by the Svirzh family. Later, the castle became the property of the Tsetner family, who owned it from the second half of the 17th to the beginning of the 19th century. It was during this period that the structure was fortified and surrounded by ponds, moats, and a drawbridge.

Over different periods, the castle underwent destruction and reconstruction, particularly during World War I, after which it remained in ruins for a long time. Restoration work began in 1975. Some interior elements are partially preserved in the castle, including a fireplace, loopholes, and a large well in the courtyard.

The castle is famous for its romantic atmosphere, and legends about noble families and knightly battles add historical charm. It is one of those places where you want to return again and again.

Svirzh Castle is surrounded by hills, forests, and a lake, making the area ideal for walks, picnics, and photos.

Opening hours

Saturdays - Sundays: 10:00–17:00, the last quest tour starts at 16:00. Entry to the territory is only allowed with a guide.
