The house at No. 40 Konduktorska Street was built in the 1890s and belonged to the background development that emerged on the slopes of the hill due to the expansion of the railway workers' settlement near the station. The loss of this structure is a painful blow to the city's historical memory, as it preserved unique folk techniques and architectural elements of the last century. This was reported by activist and heritage preservationist Dmytro Perov.

The wooden estate on Konduktorska Street had an atypical construction — it was plastered with clay, and the interior rooms were decorated with gypsum moldings. Such houses were mostly adorned with elements of wooden lace, which created the special architectural look of Batyieva Hill.

Activists have repeatedly emphasized the importance of granting protected status to such objects, but buildings over a century old remained virtually defenseless against the threat of destruction or redevelopment.

At the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries, most of the wooden buildings in this area were lost due to the mass construction of elite cottages.

Dmytro Perov emphasized the significance of such objects for cultural heritage:

  • It was exactly this low-rise development that preserved folk techniques, elements, and ornaments.
  • This is a kind of genetic code that was not inherent in the more unified monumental development of Kyiv.

Last year, the public already tried to draw attention to the fate of this estate to save it from destruction. However, the fire put an end to the history of the building, which was a living witness to the development of Kyiv's railway infrastructure at the end of the century before last.
