Law enforcement officers prevented a contract killing of Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and Deputy Head of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War. This is reported by reported by the Prosecutor General's Office.

Details of the crime preparation and the suspect's detention

As stated by the National Police and the Prosecutor General's Office, a 38-year-old Kyiv resident agreed to organize the assassination of representatives of the Russian Federation. The suspect is a former serviceman with combat experience and intelligence skills, who had previously been prosecuted for property crimes. The reward for the assassination was to be $100,000 USD.

To prepare for the crime, the suspect received an advance of $10,000 USD and began gathering information about Andriy Yusov's lifestyle and residence. The investigation established that the man had repeatedly traveled to the area where the representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate lived, conducted surveillance, and studied the features of the location and possible escape routes after committing the crime. Having gathered the necessary data, he decided to use an FPV drone for the assassination and began searching for an executor with the appropriate skills.

During the planning, the suspect maintained strict secrecy, masking conversations about the assassination with construction terminology:

the assassination itself was called "construction" or "work";
the client was referred to as the "foreman";
the executor was called a "laborer" or "builder";
the instruments of the crime were disguised under the names "tool" or "cement."

Law enforcement officers uncovered the preparation at the planning stage and detained the suspect on June 4. He was notified of suspicion of organizing the preparation of intentional murder for mercenary motives, committed on commission, by prior conspiracy of a group of persons (Part 1 of Article 14, Part 3 of Article 27, subparagraphs 6, 11, 12 of Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The next day, June 5, the court chose a preventive measure for the detainee in the form of detention without the right to bail. Investigative actions are currently underway to identify the client and other possible accomplices.
